Jakarta reels from the terrorist attack

  On 14 January 2016, a group of four terrorists representing the Islamic State went on a shooting rampage in Central Jakarta.

Armed with suicide bombs, grenades and guns, the terrorist group attacked a shopping centre, a police traffic post and a Starbucks coffee shop. These buildings were heavily damaged due to the suicide bombs and many people were injured.

At this very moment Jakarta had become a scene of urban warfare with military vehicles, gun shots, and military in the street.

The terrorists were shot down by the Jakarta police and military but this attack raised fear among Jakarta civilians.

Indonesia had been warned of an upcoming terrorist attack last month.

In 2015 police received a warning from ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant). And 50 Indonesians joined Syria to fight for extremist group. In the past month alone, 16 terrorism suspects were arrested in Indonesia. In Addition, this attack is not the first in Indonesia: in 2009 a bombing occurred in Jakarta and in 2002 a massive attack took place with over two hundred civilians killed.

During the attack, a terrorist took two hostages - a Dutchman and an Algerian. The Algerian was shot and the Dutchman was also seriously injured and is actually treated at a hospital. In addition, 2 civilian died from shots. Twenty people were also injured during the attack. The victims were mainly Indonesian.

An Indonesian extremist was the mastermind of the attack. His name is Bahrum Naim and the attacker was earlier sentenced in Indonesia and Paris.

The Indonesian President Joko Widodo made a speech about the recent terrorist attack. He said that Indonesians mustn’t be afraid and that police security had been stepped up around major cities like the capital of Indonesia.

Indonesia police have arrested twelve suspects linked with the men.

In the social media,  #KamiTidakTakut has quickly spread the message that Indonesians are not afraid and will overcome terrorism.

Après l’attentat terroriste, Jakarta compte ses morts

Le 14 janvier 2016, un groupe terroriste, se réclamant de l’Etat Islamique, a tiré à l’arme à feu dans le Centre de Jakarta. Armé avec des ceintures explosives, des grenades et des armes automatiques, ce groupe de terroriste a fait exploser plusieurs bombes dans Jakarta: dans un centre commercial, un poste de police et un café Starbucks. Les bâtiments ont étés très endommagés et des passant ont été blessés. Jakarta, à ce moment même, est devenu une zone de guerre avec les véhicules militaires, les coups de feu et les militaires dans la rue.

Les terroristes ont été tués par la police ainsi que par les militaires cependant cette attaque terroriste à crée une vague de panique parmi les habitants.

L’Indonésie a été avertie d’une possibilité d’attaque terroriste au cours des derniers mois de 2015. La police a reçu des informations concernant l’Etat islamique.

Une cinquantaine d’Indonésiens ont rejoint la Syrie afin de combattre pour le groupe extrémiste. Au cours des derniers mois, 16 personnes suspectées de radicalisation ont été arrêtés en Indonésie.

Cette attaque n’est pas la première en Indonésie, en effet, en 2009 il y a eu une attaque à la bombe et en 2002 une attaque très meurtrière a fait plus de 200 morts.

Pendant l’attaque, un terroriste a pris 2 otages, un Allemand  et un Algérien, L’Algérien a été tué et l’Allemand sérieusement blessé, est aujourd’hui hospitalisé alors que deux civils ont étés tués.

Enfin, vingt personnes ont étés blessés durant l’attaque. Les victimes étaient majoritairement des Indonésiens.

Un extrémiste indonésien était apparemment le coordonateur de l’attaque, son nom est Bahrum Naim et les attaquants avaient déjà  été jugés auparavant en Indonésie et à Paris.

Dans un discours prononcé après l’attentat, le président Joko Widodo a déclaré que les Indonésiens ne doivent pas céder à la peur et que les mesures de sécurité avaient été renforcées dans les grandes villes comme Jakarta.

Les Indonésiens ont exprimé leurs condoléance aux victimes. La police a aussi arrêté vingt suspects qui étaient en liaison avec le chef du commando.

Sur les réseaux sociaux #kamiTidakTakut affirme que les Indonésiens n’ont pas à avoir peur des attaques et doiven relever la tête.
